POD (Personal Overseas Development) is a non-governmental, non-religious, volunteer-based charity based in the UK. Active since 2001, POD sends volunteers of all ages to parts of Africa, South America, and Asia with the stated goals of alleviating poverty, improving the care of animals, and engaging in environmental conservation. ==Mission and Values== The POD charity volunteers have a stated mission with the primary aim of helping overseas communities in need. They aim to alleviate poverty and improve education, health and living conditions for socially and economically disadvantage communities, improve care for animals in need, and protect the environment through research and conservation projects. The POD volunteers achieve this mission through providing volunteers, funding, and skills transfer. The pod charity states they give people the opportunity to directly help overseas communities in need through volunteering in a responsible way and a meaningful, safe, and enjoyable volunteering experience. Volunteers work on joint projects with a variety of organizations including educational, animal and orphanage bodies. International partners include Kais Kids, who support disadvantaged children in Cambodia; SOS Bahini who support people in need in Nepal, Villages in Africa operating in Tanzania, based in an East African village called Yamba (located high in the West Usambara Mountains in the Tanga region) and Prapreak School in Thailand among others. Volunteering projects vary from two weeks to sixteen weeks with the nature of the role depending in relation to the volunteers` skills and experience.
